The variety is a local landrace from the Alghero area. The bulbs have a diamond shape with a pointed top and a rounded base. The color of the outer scales is wine-red or dark purple; the inner scales are white with reddish edges.
The plant has leaves ranging from 40 to 60 cm in length. The bulbs are characterized as compact, with a low tendency to form clusters. The neck is of medium length and thickness.
The variety matures by early to mid-summer. Traditional cultivation involves growing without artificial irrigation, including on heavy clay soils. The variety is adapted to the local climatic conditions of Sardinia.
