The variety belongs to the group of so-called «golden» or «white» (self-blanching) celery. In a number of agronomic references and studies, it is mentioned as a historical variety, however, detailed data on its breeding and precise morphological descriptions are practically absent in accessible publications.

According to phytopathology materials, the «Golden Detroit» variety is susceptible to Fusarium wilt caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. apii, race 1. In this regard, in regions where this disease is prevalent, more modern, resistant varieties are recommended for cultivation.
