The Virginia type represents a group of peanut varieties distinguished by the largest fruit and kernel sizes compared to other types. The plants have shoot heights of about 45–50 cm. Two large kernels with distinct taste qualities usually form inside the shell.
This type of peanut is intended for consumption in roasted or salted form, including in the shell. Use for the production of oil or paste is a lower priority. Maturity and disease resistance characteristics vary depending on the specific breeding variety within the group.
