The Picra variety is known for its genetic resistance to the pathogen Leptosphaeria maculans, which causes blackleg in cruciferous plants. The presence of specific resistance genes Rlm5 and Rlm6 is associated with this variety.

In comparative studies, the variety demonstrated seed yield and early maturity indicators higher than those of other brown mustard varieties. The variety was also studied for sinigrin content in the seeds.
