For varieties of this type, including the classic «Gul svensk», a rounded root shape, yellow flesh, and coloration combining a green upper part with a yellow lower part are characteristic. Traditional Swedish varieties are distinguished by a sweet taste and fibrous texture.

The history of the «Svensk» group of varieties dates back to the results of centuries of folk breeding in Sweden. According to the results of agronomic trials, such variety samples demonstrate average yields in comparison with modern specialized varieties.
