The variety belongs to the crop Brassica oleracea var. tronchuda. The names Bedford cabbage, Braganza, Portugese cole, Portuguese kale, Seakale cabbage, Tronchuda cabbage, and Tronchuda kale are accepted synonyms for this plant group.
