The variety is a representative of the species Brassica oleracea L. and belongs to the Portuguese group of leaf cabbages with fleshy petioles. The plants are upright and vigorous, with an average weight of one specimen of about 1 kg.
This variety was developed in the Chaves region as a result of folk selection. In the scientific community, its genetic variability is being studied, in particular the degree of resistance to downy mildew. The crop is grown both in the open field and in greenhouses for personal consumption and local markets.
