The variety belongs to the Brassica oleracea Costata group, known as Tronchuda or Portuguese Kale. Morphologically, the plant is characterized by the presence of very large leaves and forms an open rosette type.
The plant is used in cooking, particularly for preparing traditional Portuguese soups, as well as in various dishes. The variety serves as a model object in scientific research dedicated to biochemical composition, including glucosinolate content and myrosinase enzyme activity.
