The variety was created to produce seeds intended for the production of sprouts rich in glucoraphanin, a compound that is a precursor to sulforaphane, which possesses chemoprotective properties.
Unlike many F1 hybrids, Hopkins is not sterile and is intended for efficient seed production. A key distinguishing characteristic of the variety is a genetically determined high concentration level of glucoraphanin in the seeds.
The right is granted for a limited term: propagation of the variety requires a license from the rights holder.
