Langedijk is a group of varieties that emerged as a result of centuries of selection in the Langedijk region. These are predominantly late-maturing plants with a growing season of 125 to 160 days, possessing a vigoroushabit. The heads have a round or slightly elongated shape, high density, and a milky-white color when cut.
The outer leaves of the plants are colored in light green or greenish-purple tones with a pronounced silvery waxy bloom. The variety type is distinguished by resistance to cracking and diseases, in particular to bacteriosis. The taste qualities are characterized by sweetness and tenderness, and the produce possesses excellent transportability and the ability to be stored for a long time during the winter period.
Traditionally, produce of this type is used for winter storage, fresh consumption, and sauerkraut production. Modern breeding lines used in international seed production have been developed based on these landrace forms.
