Belongs to bud-flowering heathers: the flowers do not open fully, which allows the blood-purple buds to maintain their ornamental quality until the onset of severe frosts. The calyx is rose-pink in color.
The plant is frost-resistant (zone 5a, down to -26°C) and intended for heather gardens, rockeries, group plantings, and container cultivation. Requires a sunny location and acidic, well-drained soils.
