The variety is a dense shrub 20 to 50 cm in height with evergreen dark green needle-like leaves. Flowering begins in mid-August; the flowers are semi-double, bright red in shade. The plant possesses good winter hardiness, corresponding to climate zone 6 with temperatures down to -23°C.
Successful cultivation requires sunny or semi-shaded locations and acidic, well-drained humus soils. The heather does not tolerate waterlogging, requires moderate watering and spring pruning to maintain the decorative shape of the bush.
