The Marrone di Serino IGP designation encompasses fruits of local chestnut varieties, in particular Montemarano and Verdola. This group is characterized by medium or large-sized fruits with a rounded, often asymmetrical shape. The flesh is firm, crisp, and milky-white, with a distinct sweet taste.
Plants of this type possess high vigor, require deep, well-drained acidic soils without lime, and are sensitive to water stagnation. The fruits are highly valued for fresh consumption and for the production of glazed chestnuts.
