The variety is a traditional local chestnut, geographically linked to the area of Vilacha de Folgoso do Courel in Galicia, Spain.

In the course of scientific research, the variety was identified as one of the most resistant to the pest chestnut gall wasp (Dryocosmus kuriphilus). The fruit crop is considered valuable genetic material for the preservation of the region's traditional species diversity.
