The NAPOLETANA variety (also known as Riccia or Riccia Napoletana) is an autochthonous local ecotype that historically developed in the Campania region and is cultivated in the vicinity of Roccamonfina. Fruits of this variety may be labeled with the protected geographical indication Castagna di Roccamonfina.
The fruits are of medium size, approximately 110 pieces per kilogram, with an asymmetric spherical shape and a thin dark brown shell. The kernel is milky white in color and has a crunchy texture and a moderately sweet taste. The tree is characterized by good productivity and is adapted to local volcanic soils.
