The Negrinha variety is a traditional regional cultivar of Castanea sativa that formed as a result of folk selection on the island of Madeira. It belongs to the group of the most significant local varieties of the region along with the Formosa and Do Tarde varieties.

The plant is used primarily for fruit production. The variety demonstrates increased drought tolerance and relatively better resistance to infestation by Dryocosmus kuriphilus compared to a number of other local varieties.
