Variety description

The plant forms a dense tufted bush with narrow linear leaves that are directed upwards or arcuately curved. The inflorescences are long, soft, drooping panicles of dark red color, which can acquire a pale brown shade by the end of the season.
In temperate climates, the variety is grown as an annual, as it is conditionally winter-hardy and withstands temperature drops down to -5 °C. The plant prefers sunny locations and well-drained humus soils; it does not tolerate stagnant moisture or heavy soils.
It differs from classic varieties of the species by more compact growth, intense foliage color, and color stability when grown in protected cultivation. It is used as an ornamental foliage plant in flower beds and for cutting in bouquets.
