The FARDON variety, also known by the breeding number ILC 72, is a plant with an erect growth habit belonging to the Desi type. This variety possesses marked resistance to Ascochyta blight caused by fungi of the genus Ascochyta.
The grains of the variety are characterized by good nutritional qualities: when consumed, they have an oily, non-hard, and smooth texture. Due to these properties and stable characteristics, the variety is widely used as a subject for scientific research on chickpea composition, particularly the analysis of saponins, and as a reference sample in breeding.
