The Elixir chickpea variety belongs to the kabuli type, which is characterized by large seed size and a smooth surface. The variety was developed as part of a Portuguese breeding program.

During research, the variety demonstrated high yields under both rainfed and irrigated conditions. Physical and chemical characteristics of the seeds were tested, including evaluation of texture, hydration, and culinary properties.
