The Elfo variety belongs to the Desi type and has black or brown seeds. The plant has shortened internodes, which contributes to the formation of a larger number of flowers and seeds. Phenologically, the variety is the latest in terms of flowering onset among INIAV varieties, but at the same time, it is characterized by the earliest completion of the life cycle.

The plant possesses high resistance to major fungal diseases, such as Ascochyta blight (Ascochyta rabiei) and Fusarium wilt (Fusarium oxysporum). The variety's produce is distinguished by an increased protein content that is maintained after cooking, and good adaptation to regional fluctuations in temperature and precipitation.
