The plant forms a rosette of broad, rounded leaves. The outer leaves are light green, while the inner ones form a tightly closed, large heart of white or yellowish-white color.

The variety belongs to early maturing types. The plant is characterized by being undemanding and having high resistance to premature bolting.

Used as a salad crop for fresh consumption. The variety is known under a number of synonyms, including Gele Volhart, Blonde à coeur plein, and Escariol gelber.
