The variety forms large rosettes with long, deeply cut, and strongly curled dark green leaves. The petioles and veins are light, pale green, or white in color. The growing period is from 65 to 95 days depending on growing conditions.
The plant possesses resistance to bolting at high temperatures and is also capable of enduring autumn precipitation and light frosts. The dense structure of the rosette allows for blanching of the central part to improve taste qualities.
The leaves have a moderately bitter taste, which softens in cool weather. The variety is an open-pollinated heirloom and is used both fresh and for heat treatment in soups and stews.
