The variety belongs to the group of Italian leaf chicories and is a selection from the Grumolo verde type. The plant forms a rosette of dark leaves possessing the slightly bitter taste characteristic of salad chicory.
The variety is late-maturing. With summer sowing, harvesting of produce in the form of rosettes begins in January, and with spring sowing, the variety can be used as a leaf salad for cutting.
The plant is grown as a vegetable crop for its succulent leaves and is not intended for the production of roots used in the manufacture of coffee beverages.
