Tržaški solatnik is an autochthonous Slovenian leaf-type variety. The plant forms tender, smooth, light green leaves; when crops are thinned, the development of pointed green heads is possible. The variety is characterized as early-maturing and suitable for sowing year-round.

The plant possesses good winter hardiness and the ability to withstand autumn frosts. The leaves are distinguished by their tender texture. In addition to use as fresh greens, including baby leaf production, the plant's roots are suitable for forcing in the dark to obtain gourmet bright yellow blanched heads.
