The variety was discovered in Calabria and is the result of a bud mutation of the Clementine Comune variety. The main purpose of the variety is to fill the production gap at the end of the season, which allows produce to be marketed until the end of January.

The variety is classified as late and retains its taste and external characteristics during late harvest, unlike standard varieties whose quality declines by mid-December. The plant material of the variety has undergone a sanitation process in laboratories to improve its phytosanitary status.
