The variety was obtained by hybridization of the maternal form 50-15A-6 (Citrus clementina × Citrus deliciosa) and the paternal form Mapo tangelo (Citrus deliciosa × Citrus paradisi). The fruit essential oils possess a unique chemical profile combining the aromatic properties of the Avana and Mapo varieties.
The plant is characterized by resistance to the fungal disease Alternaria alternata. Due to this trait, the variety is used in breeding programs for developing new resistant hybrids, in addition to its primary commercial use.
