The variety is historical and was formed as a result of centuries of folk selection. It includes three ecotypes: Biondo Nativo (non-grafted, with thorns), Biondo Nativo d'Innesto (grafted, more resistant), and Biondo Porcino (grafted, slow-growing, with a crown shape resembling a mushroom).

The variety belongs to late-maturing types: harvesting begins at the end of February and continues until summer. The fruits are spheroidal in shape, with a thin peel and juicy sweet pulp with an intense aroma, containing many large elongated seeds. Grafted forms demonstrate increased resistance to root rot.
