The variety is a compact deciduous perennial shrub-vine with a height of 0.6 to 1 meter. The foliage is pinnate, dark green in color.

The flowers are large, flat, and directed upwards or to the sides. There are usually 6–7 sepals; they have a broadly elliptical shape, slightly wavy edges, and a pointed tip.

The plant belongs to USDA hardiness zones 4a–9b and prefers well-drained soils. Light pruning of shoots at the end of winter is recommended for care. The plant requires support for vertical growth.
