Variety description

The plant is a deciduous vine 1.8 to 3 meters in height, suitable for cultivation on supports, pergolas, and walls. The flowers are large, 10–18 cm in diameter, consisting of 6 purple petals with a purple stripe. The foliage is green.

Flowering occurs from July to September. The variety requires heavy autumn pruning, leaving shoots 5–15 cm high. Successful cultivation requires rich, drained soils with uniform moisture; the plant prefers sunny locations or partial shade and requires winter cover.

The variety is intended for northern climates, although it is prone to frost damage after severe winters in garden conditions.
