Genetic analysis has confirmed that Mansa, Nostrale, Comune, and Santa Maria di Gesù belong to the same genotype. In scientific literature, this group of plants is most often grouped under the common name Siciliana.

Plants of this type are widely distributed in the regional horticulture of Sicily, in particular in the provinces of Catania, Messina, and the Nebrodi mountains area. Morphological differences between samples with different local names are most often caused not by genetics, but by the influence of environmental conditions.

This genotype is characterized as quite productive. Fruits of plants of this type are used in the food industry.
