The Melina variety belongs to the Galia type. Fruits have a round, slightly flattened shape and are covered with a fine netted structure. The rind color changes from green to yellow as it ripens; fruit weight ranges from 0.7 to 2.0 kg. The flesh has a pale greenish or white color and a soft, creamy texture.
The variety has been repeatedly used in scientific studies on plant physiology and vegetable grafting, where it served as the scion object when studying nitrogen uptake efficiency and the influence of various rootstocks on plant growth.
