The rootstock was developed at the East Malling Research Station. Trees on this rootstock reach 35–50% of the size of trees on seedling rootstocks. Due to their dwarfing growth habit, they require constant support in the form of a trellis or stakes to ensure stability.
The plant exhibits resistance to root-knot nematodes, Phytophthora, and woolly apple aphid, but shows susceptibility to fire blight. In professional nursery production, the rootstock is valued for its ability to accelerate the onset of fruiting in grafted pears.
