The Pastelle variety is classified as a plant with a coarse leaf texture. In agronomic studies, this variety was used as a reference sample when evaluating dry matter yield, digestibility, and general disease resistance.

Scientific publications from the 1980s noted the variety's ability to limit the development of Meloidogyne naasi females on the root system, which allows it to be classified as a "poor host" for this parasite.
