The variety belongs to the turf-type category, which is characterized by a finer leaf texture and lower growth compared to forage varieties. The crop is valued for its high turf density and ability to withstand intensive mechanical stress.

In literature, the variety should be distinguished from the improved version "Tahoe II", which is an independent breeding unit and appears in separate turf grass quality trials. The variety name is not related to the geographic region of Lake Tahoe.
