The variety is a tall, loose-bunch perennial grass with a fibrous root system. It is characterized by good winter hardiness, the ability for rapid regrowth after mowing or grazing, and high nutritional value of the green mass, which is readily consumed by livestock.
In agricultural practice, the variety was widely used as a component of grass mixtures with white clover, timothy-grass, and Kentucky bluegrass. Under modern conditions, Dotnuvos I is more often mentioned in a research context as a reference component for pasture improvement experiments or as initial breeding material.
