The variety belongs to the subspecies Festuca rubra ssp. trichophylla. The plant possesses underground rhizomes.

In scientific studies dedicated to the photosynthetic characteristics of turfgrasses, the variety was considered to have intermediate characteristics between Chewings fescue (ssp. commutata) and creeping red fescue (ssp. rubra).
