The variety Bargreen and its successor Bargreen II belong to the subspecies Chewings fescue (Festuca rubra subsp. commutata). The plant does not form long rhizomes , creating dense tufts with fine, light-green leaves.
The variety is intended for creating sports lawns and landscape gardening. It is characterized by high winter hardiness , drought tolerance , the ability to grow in shaded conditions, and resistance to diseases and trampling.
