The Bjelica fig variety belongs to the group of bifere (two-crop) varieties, which allows it to produce two harvests during one season. The plant is a product of folk selection and vegetative propagation, not the result of artificial hybridization.

Scientific studies confirm the genetic identity of all listed names as a single variety. When searching for information, it should be noted that the name Žutica in the same region is also used to designate an olive variety that is unrelated to the fig.
