Variety description

10 August 2026

Rigato del Salento is a variegated form of the Dottato variety. The plant has medium vigor, the fruits have yellow stripes on a green background, a sweet taste with honey-berry notes and a jam-like flesh texture. Fruit weight varies from 25 to 80 g. The variety is bifere and resistant to fruit cracking under high humidity.

The Panachée group, often called Fracazzano Rigato, is unifere and ripens late, usually from the end of September. The plant is often used for decorative purposes due to its striped shoots and fruits. The variety is demanding of the length of the warm growing season for full fruit ripening.

In container cultivation, plant height is controlled by pruning to 1.5 m. Varieties of this group can be affected by spider mites, mealybugs, and scale insects. Variegation is a chimeric mutation that may manifest unstably on different branches of the plant.
