Perennial herbaceous plant with a woody base and upright, spreading habit. Leaves are dark green, glossy, ovate, and deeply palmately lobed. Flowers are large, simple, and purple-red in color.

The flowering period lasts from mid-summer to autumn. Plant height varies from 30 to 70 cm. The variety prefers sunny sites and humus-rich, well-drained soils; it does not tolerate waterlogging.
