The Pollmix group of varieties is a male pollinator plant necessary to ensure the yield of female specimens. One male specimen is sufficient to pollinate 5 to 10 female bushes. The plants are spreading or upright shrubs, sometimes small trees, 2 to 5.5 meters in height with a growth potential of up to 8 meters.

Shoots are characterized as having few thorns; the leaves have a silvery-green hue and are lanceolate in shape. Flowering occurs between March and May and lasts 3–4 weeks, which covers the flowering periods of most female varieties. Male plants often bloom 6–10 days earlier than female plants.

The plants are characterized by high winter hardiness, drought tolerance, and wind resistance. They are capable of adapting to poor, sandy, and stony soils, as well as salt exposure, which allows them to be used for forming hedges and windbreaks.
