The Ovidiu variety belongs to Romanian breeding achievements and serves as a subject of study within the framework of scientific work on determining the chemical composition and genetic characteristics of sea buckthorn. The variety is used in the food and pharmaceutical industries due to the high concentration of vitamins, flavonoids, and specific fatty acids in the leaves and fruits.

The plant is classified as a representative of the subspecies Hippophae rhamnoides ssp. carpatica. Detailed morphological characteristics, such as bush height or disease resistance, are not presented in open scientific publications, however, the variety is included in the international UPOV fruit trait tables.
