The variety is the result of clonal selection, chosen from populations of wild-growing sea buckthorn Hippophae rhamnoides L. var. carpatica. The plant produces male flowers of a brownish hue, which appear in early spring before leaf emergence.
The flowers are grouped by 4–6 in short inflorescences, devoid of petals, the calyx consists of two segments 2.5–3 mm long with four stamens inside. It is recommended to plant the variety at a ratio of one male shrub per 7–8 female plants, taking into account the direction of prevailing winds.
