The Bonus variety is characterized by good lodging resistance and, for its time, high yield potential with good nitrogen uptake indices. The plant possesses a pronounced sensitivity to photoperiod, which made it a sought-after subject in physiological studies of the influence of climatic factors on the development of cereal crops.
This variety served as the progenitor for a number of well-known mutant lines obtained through seed irradiation. Currently, the variety is practically not used in commercial production, having given way to more productive modern varieties; however, it retains significance as a historical breeding object and genetic material.
