The variety is the result of hybridization between SB94912 and CDC McGwire. The plant belongs to the hulless barley type; at maturity, the grain is free of hulls, and the aleurone layer is white. The variety is characterized as short, the spike has a semi-erect or horizontal position, and the awns are long, barbed, with distinct anthocyanin coloration at the tips.
The variety possesses resistance to various types of smut, moderate resistance to leaf spots and Fusarium head blight, moderate susceptibility to net blotch, scald, common root rot, and stem rust, as well as high susceptibility to septoria. It shows resistance to lodging, grain shattering, and good drought tolerance.
