The variety was obtained from the mutant line ant17.148, induced by sodium azide. It belongs to the group of proanthocyanidin-free barleys, created with the goal of increasing the colloidal stability of beer due to the absence of specific tannins in the grain.
During tests in 1982–1983, the yield of the variety was 1–7% lower than standard varieties. Technological research revealed a decrease in the activity of enzymes responsible for the breakdown of cell wall polysaccharides and starch, which led to an increase in wort viscosity and a decrease in the proportion of fermentable sugars.
