The variety belongs to two-row barleys and is intended for feed purposes. In field trials in the UK, the variety was used as a control sample for evaluating yield performance, as well as the degree of powdery mildew infection and lodging resistance in new varieties.
More modern KWS winter barley varieties surpass KWS Gimlet in a number of characteristics, including stem strength.
