The spring two-row barley variety Pejas was bred in the Czech Republic by crossing the Perun and Jaspis varieties. The crop belongs to the varieties included in intensive breeding programs aimed at improving agronomic parameters.
In studies of the resistance of Czech varieties to powdery mildew Blumeria graminis f.sp. hordei, the Pejas variety demonstrated increased resistance, exceeding that expected with the presence of one Mla13 gene.
