The Stella variety was obtained through selection from a local barley population in Sweden. The plant is a six-row barley intended for cultivation in the conditions of Norrland. The crop demonstrated high competitiveness in specific northern conditions and adaptability to soils with an acidic reaction.
The grain of the variety was distinguished by a high amylase content, making it of interest to the malting industry. The variety was actively used in agricultural practice in the mid-20th century, approximately from 1935 to 1962, and is currently considered an object of genetic heritage.
