The Thomas Hogg variety was introduced from Japan in the 19th century by Thomas Hogg. The plant forms rounded inflorescences (mophead type) of a pure white color. The leaves are elliptical or ovate in shape and relatively small. The shrub is compact, typically reaching a height of 1.0 to 1.2 m.
The plant prefers partial shade and is characterized as a hardy, profusely flowering, and remontant variety with frost resistance down to -18 °C. Historically, the variety was recommended for greenhouse cultivation, container growing, and use in floral bouquets.
